It’s that time of year again. Spring is in the air and paint is being applied.

Celebrating the streets, solidarity, community and culture! Eager to spruce up his neighborhood, Welling Court resident Jonathan Ellis connected with Ad Hoc Art in fall 2009 and they hit it off in great stride. The first Welling Court Mural Project (WCMP) debuted in May 2010 with 40+ murals transforming the neighborhood into a creative celebration and unique public art experience. Now in its 6th year, the WCMP continues to meld a spectacular crew of legendary artists together with a fresh mix of emerging talents. Spanning over 50 years of public work and over 130 murals, the WCMP is one of the best collections of contemporary street culture on earth, all within this hidden gem of NYC; free and open to the public 24/7/365!

Some of the artists include: Abe Lincoln, Jr., Andy Golub, Beau Stanton, Bishop203, Caleb Neelon, Cern, Christopher Cardinale, Chris Soria, Chuck Berrett, Crash, Dan Witz, Danielle Mastrion, Daze, Depoe, Don Leicht, Elle, Ellis Gallagher, EpicUno, Eyez, Gera, Greg Lamarche, Hellbent, Icy & Sot, Hef, Joe Iurato, John Breiner, John Fekner, Joseph Meloy, Katie Yamasaki, Kid Lew, Lady Pink, Lmnopi, LogikOne, MagdaLove, MAST, Matthew Ellis, Meres, Praxis, Python, Queen Andrea, R. Nicholas Kuszyk, Raquel Echanique, Rene Gagnon, Royal Kingbee, Rubin415, RWK, Ryan Seslow, SEBS, SeeOne, Sinned, SpazeCraft, Subtexture, Steven Cogle, TooFly, Vera Times, Wane, Werc, Zed1, Zimad & many more.

As this is a walking tour of a public art project in the streets, bring comfortable shoes and whatever food and beverage you need to stay fed & hydrated. There are several locations around to buy food and beverages. Restrooms are available in local restaurants with patronage of the restaurant.

Come see how artists from around the world continue to unite with artists from the block to create site-specific works, which provide new arrays of visual experiences, changing how people perceive and interact with their environment.

Forever we are one. With many arms, our reach is wide.

Much love to you and yours.

The Welling Court Mural Project, based in Astoria, Queens, NY, has been a labor of love by many in support of street art, graffiti and other boundary-pushing art imagery and forms. At the invitation of the local community, the Project was created in 2009 by Ad Hoc Art, a creative enterprise run by two Oklahoma natives, Garrison and Alison Buxton. Together, with the help of many others from the community and beyond, this project grows each year and receives a wide range of interest and acclaim, from the likes of The New York Times, US News and World Report, Huffington Post, NBC Universal, NY1, HyperAllergic, Brooklyn Street Art, 12oz Prophet, and others. Beginning with 40 murals the first year to over 130 in 2015, it is one of the best collections of street art and graffiti in the world.

Artists from around the country and the world take part in the WCMP, including fellow Oklahoman artists Kris Kanaly and Marcy Cordell, who have participated and helped out the last few years. They expressed that they wished a mural project like Welling Court to be in their communities. By creating more dialog and getting forward-thinking people together, we can help take steps in that direction and bring more public art to more communities around the country and the world. Ad Hoc Art is excited to bring imagery from an incredible cross section of artists who span the rich history of graffiti and street/urban art to Oklahoma. This show highlights muralists from the 70’s to present translating their works to gallery art. “WCMP: Wish You Were Here!” provides Oklahomans with the opportunity to add a piece of New York street art history to their collections while simultaneously contributing to future mural projects.

Participating artist: Alice Mizrachi, Alison Buxton, Amanda Marie, Avoid Pi, Cern, Chris Cardinale, Col Wallnuts, Crisp, Dan Weise, D Gale, Depoe, Don Leicht, Ellis G., EpicUno, Fumero Ism, Gaia, Garrison Buxton, Gilf!, Greg Lamarche, Hyland Mather, Icy and Sot, Jaime Rojo, Jerms, Joe Iurato, John Carr, John fekner, Joseph Meloy, Kimyon Huggins, Kris Kanaly, Lady Pink, Lexi Bella, LMNOPI, Luna Park, Magda Love, Marthalicia Matarrita, Michael Fitzsimmons, Marcy R. Cordell, Peat “EYEZ” Wollaeger, Praxis, Mr. PRVRT, Raquel Echanique, Robots Will Kill, Royal King Bee, Rick Sinnett, Royce Bannon, Rubin415, Russell King, Ryan Seslow, SeeOne, Sest2, Shiro, Solus, Subtexture, Thundercut, Trap, VeraTimes, Wane COD, Zam, Zheik and more from the personal Ad Hoc archives…

In love and solidarity, forever we are one.

Happy day to you.  We hope you have had some amazing experiences and are gearing up for an action-packed summer, wherever you are.  We at Ad Hoc Art have been busier than ever and these are very interesting times in which we are living, to say the least!  #Occupy Everywhere/Everything is in full effect and the timing for a solid art fest could not be more ripe.

We will be dropping more info soon, but we wanted you to have the head’s up that the 3rd Annual Welling Court Mural Project will be debuting on Saturday, June 16th.  Be prepared for more sublime art, music, food, and community with some of our solid state heavy hitters and brand new maestros.

Come one, come all as we forge a better future, together…

AD HOC ART CONTINUES MAJOR PUBLIC MURAL PROJECT COMPRISING 58+ INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS REPRESENTING OVER 50 YEARS OF STREET ART

– An Art Event Celebrating the Streets, Solidarity, Community, and Culture –

WHAT: The community of Welling Court in Queens, New York first asked Ad Hoc Art to help them spruce up their neighborhood in 2009.  Ad Hoc Art was honored to do so and rose to the occasion in May 2010 organizing a project fitting for the diverse, enthusiastic, and energetic inhabitants.  A year later, Ad Hoc assembled another crew of legendary and groundbreaking artists spanning more than 50 years of activity for the 2nd Annual Welling Court Mural Project.

This year’s 3rd Annual WCMP will be returning to cultivate all the great things art, music, and community bring out of people, plus some new artists and surprises to keep you on your toes.

As before, the Welling Court community’s annual block party coincides with the project’s opening featuring cuisine and music from the ethnically diverse and talented hosts.  Whereas this neighborhood is providing some major hospitality, it cannot provide for thousands of people, so please:

* think of it as a big social picnic/potluck of art fun action.  Bring some of your favorite tasty foods, beverages, or other contributions to share with your fellow revelers.

** if you would like to offer help or assistance to the artists, items always useful are: exterior bucket paint, paint rollers/brushes, spray paint, acrylic paint, exterior primer, etc.

*** if neither of those options works and/or you would prefer to contribute some funds for supplies, you are more than welcome to do so.

The project transforms several city blocks into a 24/7 street-level gallery, bringing artist from around the world directly to the heart of this community.  Renowned artists with deep roots in the street movement have created custom works for this project.  This new array of visual experiences provides fresh contexts for how people working, visiting, and living in this diverse cultural gem of Queens think about and interact with their environment.

Artists Include:Alice Mizrachi, Alison Buxton, Beau Stanton, Billy Mode, Brian Life, Caleb Neelon, Celso, Cern, Chris Cardinale, Chris Stain, Clown Soldier, CR, CRASH, Cycle, Dan Witz, Darkclouds, Deborah Yoon, Don Leicht, Ellis Gallagher, Free5, Fumero, Gaia, Garrison Buxton, Greg Lamarche, Hell Bent, Joe Iurato, John Breiner, John Fekner, Katie Yamasaki, Kimyon Huggins, Lady Pink, Logik One, Lmnop, Mare139, Mensen, Michael Alan, Mint & Serf, Mr. Kiji, Never, Pablo Power, Peat Wollaeger, Queen Andrea, R. Nicholas Kuszyk, Rene Gagnon, ROA, Royce Bannon, Sheryo, Sinned, Skewville, Sofia Maldonado, Spaze, Stormie Mills, Subtexture, The Wretched Rapture Crew, The Yok, Thundercut, TooFly, Veng RWK, Zam, Zéh Palito, & more….

In addition to the murals and festivities, there are special events and artist’s projects happening throughout the day.

We will have DJ’s Sleptember & Kimyon spinning block party beats to move your feet and keep you smiling.  Bring your dancing shoes.
